About
I'm Drew. I live in Wilmington, North Carolina, and I run mostly on roads, anywhere from a 5K up to 14 miles and beyond. I've only been running for a couple of years. I have a lot of other hobbies, and I love spending time with my family.
Why I built it
I love running for my fitness and my mental health, and as a way to explore my own city and new places. But summers here are hot, humid and very sunny, and the roads can be dangerous: drivers don't show much care for runners, pedestrians or cyclists. I wanted a fun way to plan routes that are as comfortable and as safe as they can be.
So RunMapApp shows you, before you set off, where the shade will fall at the hour you run, where there's a sidewalk and where there isn't, where the crossings are, how much it climbs, and which way the wind will blow.
How it's made
What matters most to me is that it's genuinely useful for runners and outdoor lovers who are into optimizing, who love diving deep into a hobby, and who enjoy a fun tool, and that it gets people out more often, having more fun while they're at it. How every layer works, and where every number comes from, is on How it works.
