Where the data comes from

See how well we know your streets.

Tree canopy — height and cover both — plus OpenStreetMap cover the whole map, everywhere, so shade renders no matter where you run. Below, we've gone further — verified local crossings, confirmed-missing sidewalks, cities' own bike-lane maps, a sharper national canopy dataset, and imported building shadows, sourced directly from the city, state, or Overture Maps.

Layers

Everywhere else still gets global tree canopy — height and cover — plus OpenStreetMap crossings, sidewalks and bike lanes, so shade still renders — just not independently verified. This layer marks where cover specifically comes from the US government's own NLCD dataset rather than the global one.
